(Springfield, IL) — Newspaper editors in the Quad Cities, Bloomington-Normal, Decatur, and southern Illinois are all calling for a state government shutdown. The Lee newspapers ran editorials yesterday saying the only way Illinois will get a new state budget is when lawmakers and the state’s political leaders hear from thousands of ”screaming” taxpayers. The papers say a judge should stop paychecks for state workers at the end of the month to force some urgency at the Illinois Capitol.
