A multi-million-dollar lawsuit against the University of Illinois is moving forward. Attorneys for Joseph Petry are alleging breach of contract by UI officials and are asking for nearly eight-million dollars. The complaint filed in June 2020 alleges the UI board of trustees violated a resignation agreement Petry signed in April 2019 by continuing an investigation into alleged misconduct between Petry and a student. The nearly year-long investigation found the accusations against Petry weren’t credible. UI’s board argues that damages Petry sustained were cause by his own actions or from other third-parties.
