Teen Boy Found Guilty Of Killing Pregnant Woman In Decatur
(Decatur, IL) — A teenage boy will be sentenced next month for the killing of a woman and her unborn baby two years ago in Decatur. 17-year-old Mattarion Anderson was found guilty of murdering 20-year-old Janiah Thomas, who was 26 weeks pregnant at the time of her death. Authorities say Thomas and her four-year-old daughter were both shot in March 2023 in the 13-hundred block of North Woodford Street. The daughter survived. Mattarion, Mattavius Anderson, and Tarlan Mackey were all arrested in connection with the shooting. The cases against Mattavius and Mackey are pending.
