About the African-American Cultural and Genealogical Society of Illinois, Inc. Museum: It is the mission of the African-American Cultural and Genealogical Society Museum and Library to preserve and educate the historic significance and contributions of African Americans in America and in Central Illinois. America’s history, through the lens of African-Americans, is the story of the resilience of one of many races – a people who were sold into slavery, endured prejudice and discrimination but ultimately overcame adversity and made amazing contributions in the realm of science, medicine, art, music, patriotism, politics, and technology. Our museum is designed to continue to inspire the next generation by giving those hidden figures a voice.
