Decatur AFL-CIO to Host Labor Day Parade and Picnic To distribute $16,500 in grants to local charity
In a tradition of celebrating the achievements of working families and celebrating everyday people in
Decatur, Illinois – Decatur Trades & Labor Assembly, a central labor council of the AFL-CIO, is hosting the annual Labor Day Parade at 10:00 AM on September 5, 2022 in downtown Decatur.
The parade will feature Grand Marshal, Doris Turner, Illinois State Senator (D-48), and labor unions from throughout the Macon County and surrounding areas. The theme is “Vote Yes for Workers Rights”.
The public is invited to come watch the parade.
Other events include a “Picnic in the Park” immediately following the parade which will be held in
Fairview Park. The event is free to sponsoring organizations and costs $25 for the general public. The
fee will purchase a wristband good for food, refreshments, ice cream and games for the kids.
Working families strive to keep our community strong. This will be demonstrated at 1:00 PM, as labor
unions present $16,500 in grants from the We Are One Community fund. This fund is a charitable giving
fund for working families housed at The Community Foundation which gives 100% of all individual
donations directly to local charity.
“Our Labor Day parade will showcase local unions and celebrate the good work they do every day.
Together, union members keep our community going and we appreciate all they do,” stated Lamarcus
Williams, President of Decatur Trades & Labor Assembly.
