Senate Confirms Maldonado As First Hispanic Woman To Serve As Federal Judge In Illinois
A Chicago attorney is set to make history as the first Hispanic woman to serve as a federal district court judge in Illinois. The U.S. Senate voted yesterday to confirm Nancy Maldonado to be a U.S. District Judge for the Northern District of Illinois. Senators Dick Durbin and Tammy Duckworth released a joint statement saying Maldonado has the qualifications, integrity, and judgment to serve with distinction, while bringing diversity to the bench. Maldonado must still be sworn in.
