DPS #61 has released a statement that they have been notified by Alltown Bus Company, that they have an insufficient number of bus drivers for the first day of school Monday, due to a high number of drivers being sick with COVID-19. The release from DPS #61 is as follows:
Decatur Public Schools administration has been notified by Alltown that a substantial number of bus drivers are currently out with COVID. We’ve been working to find the best possible solution. But at this time, DPS has many bus routes that will not have a driver when students start school on Monday, August 16.
DPS is calling families directly who are affected by this bus driver shortage. Those phone calls will be made today and throughout the weekend, if needed.
We understand that this is a huge inconvenience for our families. We are pushing Alltown to find a solution as quickly as possible, which includes bringing in drivers from other towns.
In the meantime, we are asking affected families to provide transportation for students who ride affected bus routes. Accommodations will be made for affected families who are unable to provide transportation so that students are not marked absent. Again, affected families will be contacted directly and options will be given for those students.
DPS will send out more information when there is a resolution from Alltown or drivers are released from COVID quarantine. We want to thank our families for giving us grace during these continuing unprecedented times.
