An Illinois lawmaker is calling for a full audit of the state’s unemployment system. State Senator Chapin Rose has filed a resolution asking for the audit, calling the Illinois Department of Employment Security a “disaster.” Rose also says the system failed to help struggling families, and that Governor J.B. Pritzker’s administration “didn’t care.” A financial audit of IDES was released earlier this week, which Rose says reported numerous failures in the system.
Meanwhile, a financial audit of the Illinois Department of Employment Security shows millions in fraudulent payments. The audit indicates over 155-million dollars in payments have been made for fraudulent Pandemic Unemployment Assistance claims. The reports says the department didn’t put in safeguards to catch ineligible payments.
