Three and a half million dollars in Community Grants are being awarded to help curb summer violence in Illinois. The money will be split between 21 local youth programs to use through the end of September. The goals is to keep kids off the streets says Christian Perry with the Illinois Criminal Justice Information Authority. Programs in Decatur, along with Springfield, Champaign, Chicago, Joliet, Aurora and East St. Louis will receive the funding, which comes from the sale of recreational marijuana in Illinois.
