The Mt. Zion Chamber of Commerce held their Annual Banquet on April 22, 2021 at Coz’s Restaurant Meeting Room in Mt. Zion following the Illinois COVID-19 Phase 4 Guidelines.
Del’s Popcorn of Mt. Zion was awarded the 2020 Outstanding Business of the Year. Del’s Popcorn has been part of the Mt. Zion community since 2002, but the business itself began as far back as 1934 as a tiny confectionery in Decatur. They are a small business with a large presence in the community. Del’s Popcorn of Mt. Zion is always willing to work with local charities, school, and library groups to support activities and events. They offer 4 Life Skill students from Special Education to work inside the store. They were recently voted #1 Reader’s Choice for Best Place to Work. Del’s Popcorn of Mt. Zion has been a strong supporter of the Mt. Zion Chamber of Commerce sponsorships and volunteer activities; Trudy Jacobs is a board member on the Mt. Zion Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.
Emily Phillips was the recipient of the 2020 Mt. Zion Chamber Volunteer Award. Emily has served as one of our Ambassadors for the last two years. She has always volunteered to go the extra mile and help wherever she was needed whether it be selling tickets for prayer breakfasts and fundraisers, checking people in at luncheons at the COVID-19 table, help box dinners at drive-up pork chop dinner fundraisers, and many other volunteer tasks.
Through the years, the Mt. Zion Chamber Scholarship Fund has donated thousands of dollars to qualifying graduating seniors from the Mt. Zion School District or to the child of a Chamber Member in good standing. Three scholarships, totaling $3,000, were awarded this year to: Jonathan E. Oliger, Marin D. Stenger, and Chloe P. Moyer.
