A new set of teaching standards is being implemented in Illinois. The Illinois State Board of Education adopted the Culturally Responsive Teaching and Leading standards yesterday. Executive Director of Teaching and Learning for ISBE Jennifer Kirmes says the standards are intended to help teachers to be able to educate students from all backgrounds. Some lawmakers have criticized the standards, saying they push progressive politics into schools. After the rules are filed with the Secretary of State, they will take effect in October 2025.
