The Illinois Legislative Black Caucus is calling for sweeping police reform. Members discussed their criminal justice agenda yesterday, which seeks to eliminate cash bond and allow anonymous complaints to be used against officers. Senate Majority Leader and Black Caucus Chair Kimberly Lightford is spearheading the effort.
The Illinois State Police say they will be adopting the NAACP’s ten shared principles on police reform. The principles are a list of goals leaders of both organizations hope will help develop trust between officers and their communities. Champaign County’s NAACP Chapter President Minnie Pearson says the move is encouraging, but more solid action by state and local police and the community is needed.
