The Lake Shelbyville Dam West Beach was closed Tuesday but re-opened Wednesday morning. According to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Lake Shelbyville Facebook page on Monday, July 6th the Dam West Beach Recreation Area was covered in litter, causing the area to be closed. Officials say there were 8 trash cans at the top of the sand and 1 trash can was full while the other 7 were nearly empty. There was also 1 dumpster that was only 1/4 full. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers who operates the beaches said they will provide more trash receptacles and dumpsters if the need requires such, but added that further incidents where litter is left behind will result in extended closures.
