Dozens of people are injured after a rash of tornadoes ripped through central Illinois. The National Weather Service says 22 tornadoes were reported in Taylorville yesterday, tearing through farms and destroying homes. At least 30 people were injured in Christian County, southeast of Springfield. A county official said emergency crews responded to about a dozen homes that had people trapped inside. Authorities will assess the damage this morning.
As of 5am there were over twenty power poles down in Taylorville. 21 residents taken to the hospital. Three transferred to other hospitals. Officials are warning residents to be careful clearing debris until they are sure there are no live power lines mixed in.
