 The NFL's 2013 preseason schedule it out. The slate begins August 4th with the Cowboys facing the Dolphins in the Hall of Fame Game in Canton, Ohio. The Super Bowl champion Ravens will be featured on national television when they host the Panthers on August 22nd. The NFL is expected to release its regular-season schedule for all 32 clubs on April 16th.

Mariano Rivera's all-time save record is a little higher. The 43-year-old closer notched his first save of the season and 609th of his career as the Yankees beat the Red Sox 4-2 Thursday in New York. It was Rivera's first regular-season outing since major knee surgery last year. He hurt his knee shagging fly balls before a game in Kansas City in May, but elected to return this year for his 18th season.  Other scores from the Major Leagues yesterday have:

Rutgers assistant men's basketball coach Jimmy Martelli is resigning. The move came one day after head coach Mike Rice was fired. Rice was let go after ESPN's "Outside the Lines" aired video of him physically and verbally abusing players in practice. According to ESPN, Martelli was known among the players as "Baby Rice."

Former Auburn head football coach Gene Chizik is denying reports of NCAA violations. Former safety Mike McNeil said the school paid cash to some players. The allegations were first reported by former Sports Illustrated correspondent Selena Roberts. A statement from Chizik said her report was long on accusation but short on facts and logic. According to the report, Auburn changed players' grades to secure eligibility, offered money to potential NFL draft picks so they would return for their senior seasons and violated NCAA recruiting rules.

The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series heads to Martinsville Speedway this weekend for the STP Gas Booster 500. The circuit had last weekend off for the Easter holiday. Dale Earnhardt Jr. currently leads the points standings by 12 points over defending champion Brad Keselowski. Sunday's Cup race starts at 1:TheThe NFL released its regular season schedule last night. The Chicago Bears begin the season on Sunday, September 8th at home against the Cincinnati Bengals. The Bears will be featured on national television four times in 2013, including twice on Monday night. Chicago's bye is in Week Eight.
The Rams will open the 2013 season at home against the Cardinals September 8th. Then they play back-to-back road games at Atlanta and at Dallas before hosting San Francisco in the Thursday night game in Week Four. The Rams host Seattle on "Monday Night Football" in Week Eight and end the season in Seattle December 29th.

The Chicago Blackhawks play the middle contest of a three-game homestand tonight when they host the Nashville Predators. The Blackhawks have won six straight games to move to 33-5-and-4 on the season. This is the fifth and final meeting between the two teams this regular season. Chicago has won the previous four.

Anthony Rizzo hit a two-run homer and Alfonso Soriano added a solo shot to power the Cubs to a 6-2 win over the Rangers. Welington Castillo went 4-for-4 and Luis Valbuena had two hits and drove in two runs for Chicago. The Cubs earned a split of the rain-shortened, two-game set at soggy Wrigley Field. Carlos Villanueva pitched seven innings of two-run ball for the win. The Cubs start a three-game road series with Milwaukee tonight.

R.A. Dickey evened up his record at two helping the Blue Jays lock up the White Sox, 3-1. Chris Sale took a tough-luck loss striking out six and allowing three runs, only two of which were earned, in seven innings. Tyler Flowers had a one-run double in the eighth. The two teams split the four-game series. The Sox start a three-game series at U.S. Cellular with the Twins tonight.
Carlos Beltran homered off Mike Adams in the top of the seventh inning as the Cardinals beat the Phillies 4-3 in Philadelphia. Yadier [[ YAH-dee-air ]] Molina went 3-for-4 with two RBI as the Cards improved to 9-and-6. Adam Wainwright allowed nine hits and three runs in seven innings for his third win. The Phils have lost four straight.

The Chicago Bulls begin the first round of the postseason on the road against the Brooklyn Nets tomorrow. The Nets host the first two games of the best-of-seven series. Chicago, as the five-seed, hosts Game Three on Thursday and Game Four on Saturday, the 27th. An if necessary Game Six will also be in Chicago on May 2nd.

Notre Dame and NBC Sports reached an agreement on a new 10-year contract giving NBC rights to televise Irish home football games from 2016 to 2025. To date, 6,300 Notre Dame students have received nearly $80 million in aid from revenue generated through the school's collaboration with NBC, that dates back to 1991. Adam Wainwright tossed eight-and-a-third innings of five-hit ball as the Cardinals defeated the Nationals, 2-0. Wainwright struck out nine and walked just one to improve to 4-and-1. Edward Mujica recorded the final two outs for his third save. St. Louis has won three out of four and is now 12-and-8.

Darwin Barney hit the game-winning solo home run in the top of the 10th to help the Cubs clip the Reds, 4-2. Cody Ransom belted a solo homer in the second for Chicago, which snapped a four-game slide. Carlos Marmol blew the save but earned the win while Kevin Gregg picked up the save.
Last night's game between the White Sox and Indians at U.S. Celluar Field was postponed due to rain. No makeup date for the contest has been announced. The two sides will close out the series this afternoon with first pitch set for 1:10. Jose Quintana will take the ball for Chicago against Cleveland's Zach McAllister. Each team pushed their rotation back a day due to the rainout.

The Blackhawks continue to wind down the regular season tonight as they meet the Oilers in Edmonton. Chicago's lost two straight following Monday's 3-1 setback at Vancouver. The 'Hawks are 34-6-and-5 and locked into the top seed in the Western Conference. They lead Pittsburgh by three points in the race for the Presidents' Trophy.

Jordan Leopold had two assists and Brian Elliott stopped 17 of 18 total shots as the Blues skated pasted the Avalanche 3-1. The win clinched a Western Conference playoff spot for St. Louis. Chris Stewart and Andy McDonald both recorded a goal and an assist for the Blues in the win.

The Rams are gearing up for tomorrow's NFL Draft. The Rams have the 16th and 22nd picks in the first round, thanks to last year's trade with Washington. The draft starts tomorrow night in New York.
Five-time NASCAR Sprint Cup champion Jimmie Johnson maintains a 37-point lead over Kasey Kahne in the current standings after Sunday's race at Kansas. Defending champ Brad Keselowski is one point back of Kahne in third place. This week the series shifts to Richmond for the Toyota Owners 400 on Saturday night.

The Bulls are gearing up to host the Nets at United Center tomorrow night for Game Three of their Eastern Conference quarterfinal series. After dropping Game One, Chicago pulled even with a 90-82 victory on Monday night in Brooklyn. Game Four of the series will take place on Saturday afternoon.
The NFL Draft begins tonight at Radio City Music Hall in New York City.  The Kansas City Chiefs have the first overall selection after finishing the 2012 campaign 2-and-14.  The new-look Jacksonville Jaguars pick second after a 2-and-14 season.  Rounds two and three are Friday, while rounds four through seven are on Saturday. The St. Louis Rams pulled off not one, but two trades on the first night of the NFL Draft. First, they traded with Buffalo to move up from 16th to eighth in order to take speedy West Virginia wideout Tavon Austin. St. Louis also got a third-round pick in the deal, while sending the Bills the 16th overall pick as well as a second, third and seventh-rounder this year. The Rams then traded down, dealing the 22nd overall pick and a 2015 seventh-rounder to Atlanta for the 30th overall pick as well as a third and sixth-rounder this year. The Rams used the 30th overall pick to take Georgia linebacker Alec Ogletree.
 
The Bears used the 20th overall pick of Thursday's first round of the NFL draft to select offensive lineman Kyle Long out of Oregon. Long is the son of Hall of Fame defensive lineman Howie Long. Chicago will pick 50th overall in Friday's second round and has three more choices on Saturday in rounds four through seven.
 
Adam Dunn hit a two-run home run and Jeff Keppinger had two hits and an RBI leading the White Sox past the Rays, 5-2. Alex Rios scored two of the five runs in support of starting pitcher Chris Sale, who allowed two runs on four hits and struck out seven in seven innings for his second win of the season. The two teams have three games left in the current series.

The Cardinals are back home tonight at Busch Stadium to open a three-game series with the Pittsburgh Pirates. St. Louis has won four straight games but faces a hot Pirates team that has also won four-in-a-row. Lance Lynn gets the start and looks to remain undefeated after getting off to a 3-and-0 start to the season.

Luis Valbuena hit a solo home run in the top of the ninth inning to give the Cubs a 4-3 win over the Marlins. Nate Schierholtz was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a RBI in the victory. Chicago took game one of the series to move to 7-and-14 with the series continuing tonight. Edwin Jackson allowed three runs in six innings, while reliever Shawn Camp earned the win and Carlos Marmol nailed down his second save.

Ryan Reaves scored twice helping the Blues beat the Flames, 4-1. Alexander Steen and Andy McDonald also lit the lamp for St. Louis, which is in the fourth spot in the Western Conference postseason picture. Chris Stewart and Adam Cracknell each had a pair of assists in the win. St. Louis hosts Chicago on Saturday in the regular-season finale.
 
The Chicago Blackhawks already have assured themselves of the best record in the NHL for the first time in 22 years. The Hawks host Calgary tonight and end the regular season in St. Louis on Saturday. Chicago will have home-ice advantage through all four rounds of the playoffs.
 
The Sprint Cup Series is at Richmond International Speedway tomorrow night. Matt Kenseth is coming off last week's win at Kansas Speedway. Jimmie Johnson is first in the standings with 311 points. Last week's second place finisher Kasey Kahne is 37 points back of Johnson.
The Nuggets held off elimination by winning Game Five of their Western Conference Quarterfinal series against the Warriors, 107-100.  The Warriors still hold a 3-2 series lead on the Nuggets heading into Game Six.  Elsewhere in the West, the Grizzlies won the crucial Game Five over the Clippers, 103-93.  Memphis heads home with a 3-2 lead.  
The Grizzlies first trip to the Western Conference Finals is not off to a good start as they were crushed by the Spurs, 105-83.  Tony Parker led the way for San Antonio with 20 points and nine assists.  Memphis tries to avoid heading home in a 2-0 hole when the teams square off on Tuesday night. 
 
The NHL playoffs continued Sunday with a pair of Eastern Conference semifinal matchups.  The Boston Bruins took a commanding 2-0 lead in their series with the New York Rangers following a 5-2 victory.  Colin Greening scored the game-winning goal 7:39 into the second overtime as the Senators edged the Penguins 2-1 in Game Three.  Pittsburgh holds a 2-1 lead in the series. 
 
The 33-car field for the Indianapolis 500 is set.  The final nine cars in the last three rows were filled on Sunday's Bump Day.  Josef Newgarden ran the fastest qualifying four-lap average at 225.731 miles-per-hour and will sit on the inside of row nine.  Katherine Legge holds the last spot on the outside of row 11.  Michel Jourdain, Jr. did not make the field.  Ed Carpenter earned the pole on Saturday.  The 97th Indy 500 is on Sunday, May 26th.
 
Jimmie Johnson became the first driver to win the NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race four times on Saturday night at Charlotte Motor Speedway.  The five-time Sprint Cup Series champion passed his Hendrick Motorsports teammate, Kasey Kahne [[ Cain ]], for the lead after the final restart with 10 laps remaining.  Joey Logano finished in second followed by Kyle Busch, who led 29 of 90 laps, and Kahne.
 
Horse racing fans will have to wait another year to have a Triple Crown winner.  Oxbow at 15-to-1 led wire-to-wire at the 138th running of the Preakness Stakes to upset heavy favorite and Kentucky Derby winner Orb on Saturday.  Orb finished in fourth while Itsmyluckyday [[ It's my lucky day ]] came in second and Mylute was third.
 
Congrats to Coach Johansen and the LSA Lions for winning the First Regional Championship for the LSA in School history as the #5 seed Lions beat #3 seed Blue Ridge to take the IHSA Fisher Boy's Baseball Regional.  The LSA plays next on Wednesday in the Sectional.
 
Congrats to Central A and M for taking a State Title in Girl's Track over the Weekend.
