(Carbondale, IL) -- Lieutenant Governor Sheila Simon is encouraging residents along the Illinois River to remain vigilant and continue to take precautions against rising flood waters. Although the northern portion of the river is receding, portions downstream have yet to crest and could see it raise another four to seven feet in the coming days. In fact, Beardstown is bracing for a crest of 29-and-a-half-feet Thursday morning. The flood stage in the town is only 14-feet. Simon vows to work with disaster relief officials on every level to provide relief for communities that are currently, or soon to be under water.
