Scherers Bill Reducing State Vehicle Fleet Moving On
(Springfield, IL) -- State Representative Sue Scherer’s bill that would reduce the size of the state’s vehicle fleet is moving on to the House floor. The legislation unanimously passed a House committee last week. It would require Illinois to sell all vehicles found to be an inefficient use of state funds. A 2011 report by the Illinois auditor general found that state vehicles driven less than seven-thousand-miles-per-year were costing taxpayers more than it would cost to reimburse a state employee for using their personal vehicle. The state currently maintains a fleet of well over 16-thousand vehicles.
