(Springfield, IL) -- Governor Quinn says his budget proposal for the upcoming fiscal year is difficult to swallow, but its an honest approach. The governor once again called on the General Assembly to press forward on pension reform, saying at the rate things are going, the state will be paying more for its pension systems than education by 2016. Quinn also defended his decision to shut down a number of state facilities and announced that he would be eliminating 75 boards and committees that he feels are redundant. He says spending levels for the FY-14 budget are the lowest since 2008.
