(Mattoon, IL) -- If you’ve used Mattoon’s Amtrak depot in the recent past, you may have found things a little crowded. The number of riders using the stop has more than doubled since 2005. In 2012, more than 40-thousand riders grabbed the train in Mattoon, with December checking-in as the busiest month. In 2005, only 16-thousand passengers took advantage of the rail line. It’s a cheap ride. Mattoon to Chicago prices begin at 18-bucks and the train runs three times a day.
