(Washington, DC) -- A Washington, DC-based environmental group is honoring Advanced Disposal of Decatur for its efforts in helping to clear an illegal dump site. Residents left more than 250 tons of garbage in an alleyway near Oakland Avenue which would have cost the city 15-grand to remove. Advanced Disposal stepped in and did the work for free and that’s something Thom Metzger with the Environmental Industry Associations says needs to be recognized. Advanced Disposal borrowed some heavy equipment from a Springfield company and got the help of Norfolk Southern Railroad as well. It took about four full days to clear the site.
